Rehabilitation of Löcknitz water tower and extension

The Löcknitz water tower was built at the beginning of the 20th century as a technical system for the Deutsche Reichsbahn (the former German railway company). The water tank was on the top floor, but has already been demolished. Two storey ceilings made of armoured concrete served to reinforce the building. The basement housed the machine and pump room. The tower shaft is made of clinker brickwork up to the attic. The tower head was originally designed as a filigree concrete structure. Due to the long-standing vacancy and defenseless delivery of the weather, the tower head has decayed increasingly, so that the concrete structure could not be preserved. The tower was rebuilt in a wooden structure with a wooden facade. The historic steel structure inside the tower head has been secured and left visible. The new roof covering was made in zinc sheet, standing seam. The historical top has been replicated and again forms the end of the tower.

A timber construction is planned adjacent to the tower. The addition, as a simple, modern structure, should contrast with the historic water tower. The connection is formed by the wooden facade of the tower head, which can also be found in the extension.
